Sam Hunt is one of the hottest upcoming country and country pop music stars in recent years. Hunt recently signed with the popular MCA Nashville label; his first studio release, Montevallo, reached the number one spot on the US Country Music charts and reached the number two and three spots on the normal US and Canadian music charts as well. This upcoming star has been described by major country music stars as the “real deal” and the “next big thing.” How well do you really know Sam Hunt? Let’s take a closer look at everything you need to know about this rising country star.
His Music
Although Sam Hunt is definitely a country music star, he has revealed that he doesn't write his lyrics or music with the country music genre in mind, but instead follows his "instinct" with each song. His major musical influence is Brad Paisely, due to the fact that Hunt often listened to Paisley when he was growing up. He has also cited non-country music stars as influences and inspirations, including Usher, Billy Currington, and R. Kelly.
Montevallo is his only studio album to date. The album sold 477,00 physical copies in the USA and was certified RIAA Gold. The most popular tracks on the album are Take Your Time, Leave the Night On, Break Up in a Small Town, and Cop Car; Leave the Night On and Take Your Time were both released as singles, and both reached the #1 spot on the US Hot Country charts.
Personal Life
Sam Hunt--born Sam Lowry Hunt--was born in Cedartown, Georgia on December 8th, 1989. His father was an insurance agent while his mother worked as a high school teacher. During high school, he played on the school's football team and even won several awards for his performance on the field. He attended Middle Tennessee State University for 2 years, which is where he first became interested in music and bought his first guitar. He was eventually invited to attend the Kansas City Chiefs training camp, but eventually decided to pursue a career in music after his football career didn't show enough promise.
Career
Hunt's career really began to take off in 2012, when he co-wrote Kenny Chesny's hit single, Come Over; in 2013, he wrote two more hit singles: Cop Car by Keith Urban and We Are Tonight by Billy Currington. In early 2014, MCA Nashville confirmed that they had signed Hunt to their label, and throughout the next several months he released several singles from his upcoming album, which all became chart toppers. After releasing a preview version of the album, Hunt finally released the full version of his very first studio album in November, 2014. The album was an instant success, and he announced his first tour only five days after the album's popular release. The tickets for all 15 of Hunt’s announced concert dates sold out within minutes and, in the case of a few venues, seconds.
